Can an immigrant be a permanent resident?

This is for people who live permanently in the United States. Synonymous terms for immigrant status are: Permanent Resident, immigrant, green card holder, and resident alien.

How long does it take for an immigrant to become a permanent resident?

In most cases, it takes about two years for a green card to become available, and the entire process takes around three years.

Can a permanent resident of Canada sponsor a friend?

Currently there is no direct sponsorship program for friend of Canadian citizen or permanent resident. However, friends of permanent residents or Canadian citizens may apply for visitor visa, if they are from non-visa-exempt country. Visa office will ask to submit a letter of invitation from friend living in Canada.

According to USCIS, an application for permanent residence (Form I-485) will take anywhere from 7 months to 33 months to process. The time range fluctuates depending on the office location, basis for the filing, and other factors.

Can I bring a friend to America?

Yes you can. If you would like to invite a friend to visit you in the US, your friend can apply for a B-2 tourist visa. You will need to provide him/her with an invitation letter that s/he will take to her interview at the US Consulate/Embassy.
